What Is Basic Obedience
A basic obedience goal begins with teaching your dog proper manners so that he/she will be a well behaved family and community member. Our classes teach you how to train your dog so you can apply consistent principles throughout your pet’s life. We teach foundation commands (watch me, sit, down, stay, come, leash walking, no jumping, leave it) and how to communicate with your dog in a way that he/she will understand. Consistently applied, your dog will behave at class, at home, or wherever you may wish to take him/her. The class also serves to socialize your dog with people and other dogs. We train basic obedience by establishing human/dog relationships such as trust, discipline and control. A trained dog is an enjoyable family companion.
The Beginner Obedience class is the first level and is a prerequisite for most other classes.
Obedience registration is limited so register early to avoid disappointment. If you are uncertain which class to register for, please contact the Training Director at 306-359-6909.

Puppy/Small Dog Beginner Obedience – Fee: $100. Classes run one hour per week for 6 weeks
Prerequisite: Dogs and puppies must be 14 kilograms (30 pounds) or smaller to be enrolled in this class. Puppies must have had two sets of vaccinations.
It can be intimidating for small dogs to learn when surrounded by dogs several times their size. This class follows the Beginner Obedience class content (see Beginner Obedience below).
Beginner Obedience – Fee: $100. Classes run one hour per week for 6 weeks
Prerequisite: Dogs of all ages welcome. Larger breed puppies who exceed the size requirement for the puppy/small dog class must have had two sets of vaccinations.
In this class you will learn basic obedience commands. All training is done on leash. These include heel (your dog will walk beside you on a loose lead), sit, sit stay, down, down stay and recall (dog comes when you call). We teach these foundation commands and how to communicate with your dog in a way that is easily understood. The class also serves to socialize your dog with people and other dogs. Our instructors will answer training questions and concerns to help you teach your dog to be well-behaved.
Advanced Obedience – Fee: $100. Classes run one hour per week for 6 weeks
Prerequisite: Must have successfully completed the Beginner Obedience class
This class begins with a refresher of what was learned in the Beginner Obedience class. In addition to polishing those skills, you will teach your dogs how to do extended sit and down stays, stand for examination, figure 8, speed transitions and return to heel position. Some off-leash work may begin.
